Review: Wind-Rose Guest House

While most people can’t wait to go on honeymoon, we chose not to. As the wedding happened really quickly, and we live in such a beautiful city, we decided that we’d take nights away and weekends away on an ad-hoc basis so it’s as if our honeymoon never really ends. Being married to a tour guide who only gets 7 days off for the month, for us, time is really important to us but also a great perk is exploring the city and getting to find and experience great hidden gems.

Also being a parent, we knew that with the wedding and suddenly leaving for the night could’ve really affected Amra and we didn’t want that – so we transitioned easily. As she spends every second weekend with her dad, the first Saturday Zunaid had off, we took advantage of the day off.

Our first place away from home was Wind-Rose Guest House in Gordon’s Bay.

The website looked amazing and the deal we got on was unbelievable that we couldn’t resist. Booking was easy and the Carla, one of the owners was lovely to communicate with.

Much to my dismay, Zunaid got home late from work the Friday we were meant to leave so we could only leave at 8pm. The drive to Gordon’s Bay was quick and we were intrigued by the very dark route but communicating with one of the owner’s Carla, she told us not to follow Google Maps but rather the route on the website. Arriving there was a bit of hiccup as we arrived past book in time but Carla was very understanding and let us in – even though she was in bed already.

As we arrived late, we couldn’t really see what the place looked like. Our room was beautifully decorated as I told Carla that we were celebrating our honeymoon.

Enjoying the night air, it was a lovely time to have a cup of coffee and enjoy some alone time. Getting into that king size bed with some epic series on, was such a great way to finally getting to relax after the hectic few weeks we’ve had.

When morning arrived, we were left in awe. The website and images just does not do this place justice. This beautiful place is such a hidden gem deep, a piece of heaven on earth, and in Gordon’s Bay; and a great perk is that is that it caters for kids as well. Peter and Carla had a divine breakfast prepared which was inclusive and we couldn’t believe the views and layout of the place. I especially loved that they catered strictly halaal as well.

The hosts really make the place and it’s easy to see why they’re a 4 star rated accommodation. Friendly and lovely, homely and amazing, it really is a great place away from home. We promised to return but this time with our kids as well.

Do yourself a favour – get booking as the place gets fully booked really quickly and it’s easy to see why.

It’s also great for weddings and conferences.
